Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

Thursday, October 15
Anyone planning a wedding could tell you that when it comes to a color scheme, there are more hues to choose from than a Crayola Big Box. Brides magazine’s Color School series at the Park at Fourteenth will educate brides and bridal parties on the season’s trendiest combinations. The event will also feature wine, specialty cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. 6 PM. Sign up here.

Friday, October 16, and Sunday, October 18
Brides hoping to gallop off into the sunset after their wedding won’t have to look far if the big day is at a horse farm. Lynden Farm’s Open Farm event Friday and Sunday will give couples a chance to explore the working family horse farm (19690 Silcott Springs Rd., Purcellville) and decide if it’s the place they want to trot down the aisle. The events include a tour of the facility, light appetizers, and an information session. Friday 11 to 2, Sunday 1 to 4. Free.

Saturday, October 17
Rumor has it that the economic slump could start turning around soon, but that’s no reason to spend any more than you need to for a beautiful wedding day. Elegant Events will show you how to plan an affordable wedding with its “How to Plan Your Dream Wedding on a Budget” seminar at the Surratts-Clinton Public Library (9400 Piscataway Rd., Clinton). 10:30 to 1. $20; advance reservations are required. Get your tickets here.

Sunday, October 18
Chocolate and frosting and sugar roses—oh, my. Check out Cakes by Design’s open house (416 Mill St., Occoquan; 703-721-9629). The shop’s portfolios will be available along with several cakes for tasting. The event is free and starts at 10. It’s never too early for cake, right?
