ART: The Citizens Association of Georgetown kicks off its annual art show at the House of Sweden. The show features works from people living in the community and runs through the end of the weekend. Things get started with an opening reception featuring beer, wine, and small bites. Free. 6 PM.
FASHION: It’s Fashion Week in New York, and I know you all look super-fashionable already, but you could still find some new ideas at the W Hotel’s party. Shop Around has details on all the beauty stations, specialty cocktails, and more. Free. 6 PM (also February 11 through 13).
Friday, February 7
OLYMPICS: It’s the opening ceremonies! For the next couple of weeks things will be all Olympics, most of the time—unless Sochi is the complete disaster it looks like it might be, in which case it’ll be all Olympics all the time. Anyway, if you’re reading this, you did not score a spot on the US (or any other) Olympic team. Maybe the Renaissance Arlington’s Winter Games for the Rest of Us are more your speed? You can compete in Wii U Sports games, eat snow cones, and enjoy food and drink specials all night. The opening ceremonies will also be on, of course. Wear red, white, and blue to get 14 percent off your tab. Free. 7:30 PM.
BEER: Black Squirrel has come down with A Serious Bout of the Stouts, and the only way you can help is by drinking some yourself. All night the bar pours 15 types of dark beer in both tasting portions and full servings. Couple your drink with a house-ground, oatmeal-stout-infused burger, and you should be set for the night. Free. 5 PM.
DANCE: DC9 is getting back into the dance-party game with Coal Box, which sounds suspiciously like Liberation Dance Party. It doesn’t have an open bar, but from 9 to 11 you can get $2 Jim Beam and Pinnacle vodka drinks, and the indie-pop music videos go all night. Sounds just like old times. Free. 9 PM.
Saturday, February 8
LIMOS: We normally try to keep things on the cheap side here, but when there’s a limo race in DC, expect us to include it. The good news is if you have a bunch of friends, it’s not so bad. Welcome to the Lindy 500, an all-city scavenger hunt that takes place mostly in the back of a limo. Afterward, there’ll be prizes and carousing, and beers are $2 all day. Registration ($599 for a ten-person team) can be completed online. 2 to 9:30 PM.
DANCE: Black Cat’s Moon/Bounce Dancing Affair has quickly turned into one of the best underground-ish dance nights in the city, featuring the chance for you to look a fool dancing to hip-hop, house, ’90s pop and anything else you’re a little embarrassed to tell your friends you still listen to. $7. 10 PM.
DANCE: Holy Ghost is one of the best synth-pop bands out there right now, so you can bet that whatever they’re listening to, you probably should be too. They’ll perform a deejay set at U Street Music Hall with Ben Browning of Cut Copy, so make sure your Shazam app is up to date. Tickets ($12) are available online; free before 11 for ages 21 and up. 10 PM.
DRINK: Put on some red or pink and get ready to fall in love, or at least beer-goggled lust. The Cupid’s Bar Crawl is the standard Dupont bar crawl affair, starting at Front Page or Rumors at 3 and hitting Mighty Pint, Sign of the Whale, Madhatter, Public, and lots more. Each bar features specialty drinks, $2 Yuenglings, and $3 vodka drinks for you and 1,600 of your closest friends. $15 online or $20 at the door. 3 PM.
Sunday, February 9
MUSIC: It’d be charitable to say Lauryn Hill’s career has had some bumps—she still hasn’t followed up 1998’s excellent Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, she’s been known to skip her own concerts, and she went to jail for tax evasion last year. But while she was in the slammer she put out one of her first songs in years, and now she’s back on tour. Check out the Fugees legend at Lincoln Theatre. Tickets ($75 to $125) are available online. 8 PM.
BABIES: Got a baby? Like dancing? Take him or her to Rock & Roll Hotel’s Baby Loves Disco, the best family dance party in the District. You can meet other families, get them started down the right path to coolness with a temporary tattoo, do some arts and crafts, drink juice boxes (don’t worry, there’s also beer), and generally cause a ruckus. Tickets ($18) are available online; non-walking babies get in free. 11 AM.
SPY: It’s the perfect time to take your significant other (or just some person you happen to kind of like) to the Spy Museum to see what their real intentions are. For the month of February, the museum is offering a package of two tickets, a special spy gift bag, and access to the top-secret Sexpionage scavenger hunt. Packages ($30) are available online. 10 to 6.
