The State of Inebriation: Where to Drink—and Eat—While Watching Obama’s Speech

Where: BlackFinn     
What: A private room, plenty of big-screen televisions, and a discussion to follow the State of the Union address. Food and drink specials at reduced prices.
When: 8 PM

Where: Bullfeathers of Capitol Hill           
What: Two-dollar mini-burgers and plenty of cheap beer.
When: 5 PM

Where: Busboys and Poets          
What: What’s your state of the union? Share your perspective at a special open mike, starting at 8 PM, followed by the President’s speech at 9.
When: 8 PM

Where: Capital Grille                     
What: Sit in the bar, sip a cocktail, and listen to the speech.
When: 5 PM

Where: The Diner              
What: Watch the speech on one of three televisions. There are also half-price bottles of wine and $8.95 chicken fajitas.
When: All day

Where: Hawk ’n’ Dove           
What: Just a hop, skip, and a jump from the US Capitol. Enjoy pint glasses of Miller Lite for just $2.50 until the speech begins at 9.
When: 4 PM

Where: Local 16               
What: Two giant projection screens in the upstairs lounge and on the outside deck. Play along with a game of Bingo (likely keywords? “health care,” “Afghanistan”).
When: 7 PM

Where: Lounge 201         
What: Show your party allegiance by ordering a martini ($7.50) in either red or blue. Half-price wine by the glass all night long.
When: 4 PM

Where: Tortilla Coast               
What: The bar will offer Miller Lite and Bud Light for $3 as well as half-price bean nachos.
When: 5 PM

Where: Union Pub           
What: With more than a dozen televisions, there’s not a bad seat in the house. Drink specials include $2 bottles of Bud Light and $5.50 cocktails.
When: 4 PM

Where: Ventnor Sports Cafe           
What: $1 shots every time Obama says a designated word.
When: 9 PM

Where: The Z Lounge at the Sports Club/LA (1170 22nd St., NW; 202-974-6603)
What: DJ Big Des will keep it groovy during the pre-speech happy hour (25-cent wings, $2 domestics, $3 imports, $4 rail drinks).
When: 6 PM
