Learn about the Northern Lights or laugh out loud at a comedy show

Redlight, a documentary about the child sex trade, takes an intense look at one of the world’s most harrowing social problems. Director Guy Jacobson will discuss the film after a screening and cocktail reception at Cafe Milano from 6 to 8. Tickets ($125) are available here. All proceeds benefit Stop Modern Slavery.

Learn the myths and the science behind nature’s best light show, aurora borealis, at physicist Paal Brekke’s multimedia lecture “Northern Lights: A Message From the Sun.” It runs from 6:45 to 9 at the National Museum of the American Indian’s Rasmuson Theater. Tickets ($40) are available here.

The “Through the Looking Glass” open-mike event showcases the best undiscovered comedic talent in Washington. Happy-hour drink specials will get you warmed up before the show. Aspiring comedians can register between 7 and 7:45, and the show starts at 8. At the Looking Glass Lounge. Free.
