MUSIC: Howard University’s Jazz Week is a celebration of the music and personalities of the genre. Events include a concert tonight from Afro Blue and the Howard University Jazztet at Blues Alley as well as a performance by the US Naval Academy Jazz Band on Thursday, April 7. Tuesday, April 5
BALLET: See the New York City Ballet in action at the Kennedy Center through April 10. The famed company is presenting three mixed-repertory programs, featuring a comprehensive selection of George Balanchine’s “Black and White” ballets. Wednesday, April 6
BOOKS: Washingtonian editor Garrett M. Graff discusses his new book, The Threat Matrix, at the International Spy Museum. In it, Graff explores the newest generation of FBI agents and their reaction to the global terrorism threat. 6:30 PM; get tickets ($12.50) at the museum’s Web site.

Thursday, April 7
MOVIES: The 25th Annual FilmFest DC begins today and runs through April 17,  showcasing the best of international cinema at five theaters around town. Highlights include this year’s winner of the Audience Award at Sundance, Circumstance, which follows the relationship between two Iranian teenage girls, and The Names of Love, a politically tinged romantic comedy from France.
