Wednesday, August 24
FESTIVAL:
Uke players of all ages and experience levels will pluck, pick and strum their way to a Guinness World Record at Strathmore’s third annual UkeFest. Two-time Grammy-winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer will emcee the event; The Washington Ukulele Orchestra, Sweater Set, and Gerald Ross will perform. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the BBQ Shack, along with Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The event is outside, so attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and low-seated lawn chairs. Free; 7 PM.

PIZZA: All four Potomac Pizza locations are celebrating the final days of summer with a giveaway of cheesy proportions. Stop by between noon to 4 PM for a free slice and drink; Limit one per customer.

AFTER-HOURS HIKE: Explore Fairfax’s Ellanor C. Lawrence Park during an hour-long Night Creek Walk. You’ll catch a rare glimpse of the park’s nocturnal neighbors, so you’ll want to bring a flashlight. Sturdy hiking shoes and bug spray are recommended. Go to the event Web site to register. Tickets are $2.50 for Fairfax residents, $4.50 for out-of-county visitors. 7 PM.

MUSIC: Maroon 5, Train, and Gavin DeGraw are dropping by the Merriweather Post Pavilion tonight, and tickets ($40.50 to $75.50) are still available through TicketFly. Grammy Award-winner Maroon 5 have brought us hits like “This Love,” “Makes Me Wonder,” and their recent collaboration with Christina Aguilera, “Moves Like Jagger.” You can sample the artists’ tracks by clicking on their names. Doors open at 5:30 PM.
