Snooping storytellers, dreadlocked rockers, and male models take Washington by storm this week

Monday, August 9
The ’90s rock scenesters Counting Crows come “Round Here” for a performance tonight at Wolf Trap. The indie band Augustana, which is currently at work on a fourth album, is the evening’s opener. Tickets ($30 to $48) are available here. 8.

Tuesday, August 10
Are you a busy body? Hear tales about the snoops among us at Curiosity Killed the Cat, a live storytelling event hosted by SpeakeasyDC at Town Danceboutique. Performers include a man whose mother tapped his phone, a guilt-free cyber-stalker, and more. Tickets ($10 general admission, $20 with an all-you-can-eat buffet) are available at the door. Ages 21 and up. 8 PM.

Wednesday, August 11
Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, begins today. Busboys and Poets’ Shirlington location marks the occasion with a screening of Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet, which tells the story of Muhammad through the lives of modern-day American Muslims. Stay afterward for a discussion with the film’s producer and a dinner to break a day of fasting. Tickets ($35) are available here. 6 PM.

Thursday, August 12
The men’s clothier Instructions Apparel previews its fall fashions at Ping Pong Dim Sum with a benefit cocktail soirée. Learn how to knot a tie before sitting down for a complimentary shoe shine, then sip on free JC Cognac refreshments and $5 custom “Windsor Knots” cocktails as live models strut their stuff. The event benefits the Institute for Responsible Citizenship, which helps place high-achieving African American youths in rewarding local internship programs.
