Opening at the Studio Theatre in DC’s Logan Circle is Passing Strange, last year’s Broadway hit chock-full of sex, drugs, and rock and roll—but also thoughtful ruminations on gospel, punk, and African-American identity. The musical, which takes its name from a passage in Shakespeare’s Othello, was nominated for seven Tony Awards and was the subject of the 2009 Spike Lee documentary Passing Strange: The Movie.
