Winter Weddings Deal

A romantic inn near Charlottesville is offering a nice deal if you marry there during the colder months.

If the flurries last weekend left you daydreaming of snow-covered hills, crackling fireplaces, and a cozy date with your sweetie at a country inn, you may not need much of an incentive to swap your springtime nuptials for a winter-white wedding. But just in case, Clifton Inn’s got one for you: Say “I do” at the inn before March 15, 2012, and the guest rooms—up to 17 of them—are yours for no additional charge.

Lovebirds who book the inn on weekends (yes, there are still weekends available!) will have access to all 17 guest rooms, as well as to the Carriage House, a private retreat for the bridal couple. On weeknights, 13 of the guest rooms are included. There is a $2,750 privacy fee for use of the property on weekends and a $1,500 fee on weeknights, as well as food and beverage minimums. A day-of coordinator is included, and the inn has tables, chairs, linens, and table settings available. “We can provide as much—or as little—coordination as couples need,” says Melissa Combs, the inn’s event coordinator.

The inn, located near Charlottesville, has a romantic history—its 100 acres were given to Thomas Jefferson’s daughter upon her wedding. And though it’s a popular spot for wedding fetes throughout the year, Combs says that its sweeping mountain views and manor-house setting are at their best in the colder months. “When there’s snow on the ground and a fire burning, it’s such a warm, soft place to be,” she says. “It’s a really intimate property.”

Most winter weddings take place in the main house, which can accommodate up to 100 guests. Options include the dining room, with a fireplace and views of the front lawn; or the stone-floored veranda, which looks out onto the Blue Ridge mountains. The back terrace—tented and heated, of course—is also available.
