Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

It's a Saturday and Sunday full of bridal shows and cake tastings.

Saturday, April 12: The Maryvale Castle Bridal Show
Maryvale Castle (11300 Falls Rd., Brooklandville, Md.; 410-252-3528) is skipping the usual rows of vendor tables in favor of throwing a mock wedding of sorts—food, flowers, music, and more will be set up as if you’re at a wedding; if something catches your eye, move closer to see a small framed display advertising what vendor is responsible. Free; 1 to 5 PM.*

Gourmet Cake Tasting
Lemon butter cake with lemon/cream-cheese buttercream? I’m sold. Cotton’s Gourmet Gifts & Creations (7744 Emerson Rd., Hyattsville; 301-306-5420) is holding a free cake tasting, and it makes some wacky flavors. By appointment only, so call now to schedule yours. 2 to 4 PM.

Sunday, April 13: Aimée Lauren and Gala Bridal Open House
Local designer Aimée Lauren and do-it-all company Gala will host a mini-party at Gala’s digs in Rockville (12115 Parklawn Dr., Suite T; 301-718-2900). Browse through Aimée Lauren gowns (if you buy one, you get a 10-percent discount plus a donation to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in your honor) and talk to Gala’s staff, who do everything from event planning to photography to invitation design. You can score 20 percent off invitations, too. RSVP (preferred but not required) to mheindrichs@galaevents.com or info@aimeelauren.com. Free; 11 AM to 3 PM. For more information, call Aimée Lauren Atelier at 202-550-4049 or Meredith Heindrichs at 301-718-2900.

Bridal Showcase at Historic Oakland
Sample food, talk to photographers, see the latest in bridal fashion, and more at this show at Historic Oakland (5430 Vantage Point Rd., Columbia; 410-730-4801), hosted by the Town Center Community Association. Admission is $10 in advance (call 410-730-4801 to purchase tickets); $15 at the door; 2 to 4:30 PM.
