5 Washington Fashion Events You Should Check Out This Weekend
Know Fashion, Butler & Claypool, a fashion expo—the social calendar is packed with stylish happenings.
Thursday, October 18
If you want to get a feel for the Washington style and arts scenes as they exist right now, there’s no better place to be tonight than 915 F Street, NW. For one night only, Know Fashion presents a buzzy mashup of runway shows, silent auctions, live and installation paintings, and musical performances. Jenny Schretter of Kolton J. jewelry hosts alongside Kate Michael; local names including Commonwealth, Accoutre, and Walish Gooshe send clothes down the runway; and rapper Tabi Bonney (who grew up in the District) performs. 8 PM to 2 AM; tickets ($30 general admission, $75 for open bar and VIP seating) are available through Scoutmob.
Think vintage is too quirky for work? Think again. Or at least get Lisa Rowan to help you reconsider. The brains behind local outfit Quarter Life vintage is hosting a “career day” edition of her popular Shop & Social event at the Mount Pleasant boutique Nana. Browse a special edit of office-ready clothing and accessories from 6 to 7:30 PM. 3068 Mount Pleasant St., NW.
Friday, October 19
So many good things come together at the Georgetown Urban Chic tonight. Lauren Wynns, a.k.a. the female half of the preptastic duo behind Necessary & Proper, hosts a Charm & Chain trunk show from 5 to 8 PM. We love Charm & Chain for one-stop online jewelry shopping from the likes of Dannijo, Lulu Frost, Erickson Beamon, and more, and tonight you’ll save 25 percent off your purchase and 25 percent off any regular Urban Chic purchase with your Charm & Chain purchase. The trunk show technically runs all day, so if you stop in before 5, just mention N&P to score the discount.
Saturday, October 20
The Fashion, Beauty, & Lifestyle Expo takes over the Washington Convention Center today with 60-plus vendor booths showing off new fashion and beauty lines. There will be fashion shows, makeovers, styling sessions, model searches, and a screening of the Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries. Getting a first look at young Carrie Bradshaw had us intrigued, but then we found out J. Alexander of America’s Next Top Model fame will be signing copies of a book we didn’t know he’d written—and now we’re hooked. Here’s hoping he brought his stilettos for one last runway walk. Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door.
Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21
Score some cool vintage finds for Halloween and beyond at Butler & Claypool’s first-ever weekend-long pop-up shop. Shop the DC-based collective’s entire inventory in special styling workshops dedicated to cocktail attire, menswear, and workwear, then pick up an autumn-inspired St. Germain cocktail and a sweet treat from the mini Uncle Chip’s bake stand. 11 to 6 both Saturday and Sunday at the 1469 Studio in Columbia Heights (enter via the alley off 15th Street between Harvard Street and Columbia Road).
