Where & When: The Week in Washington Nightlife

From ballet to big hair to a theater festival

Tuesday, January 18
The innovative American Ballet Theatre is presenting a selection of pieces, including choreography by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins as well as the premiere of “The Bright Stream” by artist-in-residence Alexei Ratmansky. Through January 23 at the Kennedy Center. Buy tickets ($25 to $99) at the Kennedy Center site.

Wednesday, January 19
The 9:30 Club becomes a love shack tonight when the B-52s take the stage. The band, which is performing its many hits from the ’80s and early ’90s, is a lot of campy fun—and there are some great hairdos in the group. 7 PM. Get tickets ($45) at TicketFly.

Thursday, January 20
If you didn’t make it to opening night, check out the lineup for Arena Stage’s New Play Festival, running through January 30. There’ll be full-length productions as well as readings from seven plays, including an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Pastures of Heaven. For a complete schedule and ticket information, visit the Arena Stage Web site. Tickets start at $20.
