Try out new looks for the big day at the Nordstrom Spring 2011 Cosmetics Trend Show, held at the department store’s Pentagon City location (1400 S. Hayes St., Arlington). There’ll be makeup artists and other professionals on hand to help you navigate the latest in beauty trends. Tickets ($15) are available at the store or by calling 800-723-2889 and are redeemable toward a cosmetics purchase of $15 or more. 8 to 10 AM.

Sunday, March 13
At a Chic Affair, taking place at the Historical Society of Washington, DC, brides can meet with area florists, caterers, and stylists, get wedding advice from a panel of experts (including Project Runway's Christian Siriano), sample hors d'oeuvres and cakes, attend a runway show featuring designs from Chevy Chase Bridal, and more. The best part? Washingtonian readers can go for free! Use the code "Washingtonian" when you buy your ticket (normally $35) from Flavourus and you'll receive complimentary admission to the event.  Tickets are also available at the door for $45. 11 to 3 PM.

The “Let Them Eat Cake” dessert tasting at the Hilton Garden Inn (7301 Waverly St., Bethesda) is a one-stop cake shop, where brides can meet with dozens of bakers and cake designers. Buy tickets ($20 for a single ticket, $30 for a couple) from Eventbrite. 1 to 5.

For a different spin on a bridal open house, try the “Brides on the Bus” tour. A bus will take you to five Montgomery County venues: Rockwood Manor, the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek, Woodlawn Manor, Brookside Gardens, and the Agricultural History Farm Park. You can meet with vendors at each venue, and there’ll be games and prizes as you ride between locations. Start at either the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek (14500 Clopper Rd., Boyds) or Brookside Gardens. Buy tickets ($25 per person, $10 for each additional guest) from ParkPass.org. 10 to 4.
