“We designed this wedding with a focus on the elements of the trend and the original artists’ style of a contrasting color palette of dark, moody black with bright shades of coral, pink, gold and green, and quirky Dutch Masters taxidermy-inspired details,” says planner Elizabeth Duncan of Elizabeth Duncan Events. The rich florals against the dark background easily conjure the oil paintings style, while the Carolina Herrera gown and bright gold accents add in some modern flair.

To bring in more romantic, natural elements, Duncan created insect escort cards. “We added details reflecting the philosophy of ‘captured nature’ with custom insect-inspired seating cards, and foraged animal skulls, as well as gilded gold accents,” she says.

Overall, the darker color palette may not appeal to every couple, but for those looking for a fresh take on an artistic style, Duncan’s Dutch Masters-inspired design is a lovely option. “This design would be perfect for a bride that wants a classically romantic wedding, but with a fresh twist; a bride who loves fashion and art; or one looking for a distinct color palette,” she says.
