A friendship that started at a college lacrosse team party, Kathleen and Ryan’s relationship didn’t develop into something more until the fall after graduation. They went to dinner in Arlington, both nervous about ruining the friendship they’d built throughout their undergraduate years, but to the relief of them both, the date went off without a hitch.

Four years later, Kathleen and Ryan were hiking at Cascade Falls. As they neared their destination, a waterfall, Ryan began to reminisce about the time they’d hiked the same trail seven years prior as friends before getting down on one knee. Though they’d thought they had the trail to themselves, after the proposal, a couple approached and said they’d seen it happening from a distance, and had captured the moment on camera.

For their May wedding in Alexandria, they followed a church ceremony with a trolley ride through Old Town Alexandria to the reception at Hotel Monaco. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the courtyard before the ballroom reception. In lieu of a photobooth, a mini polaroid camera was passed around, allowing guests to snap photos of themselves and paste them into the guest book with a note to the new Mr. and Mrs.

Wedding attendees sipped Basil Lemontinis and noshed on red velvet and raspberry cupcakes for dessert before the bride and groom departed with plans to honeymoon in the Caribbean.
