Same-sex marriage was legalized in Virginia on Monday after the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal in the case overturning the state’s 2006 ban on gay marriage. Virginia officials started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples a few hours after the Supreme Court announcement, clearing the way for Jennifer Melsop and Erika Turner to become the first same-sex couple to say “I do” in Arlington.
