You’ll Love the Cheerful Twist on “Something Blue” in this Maryland Wedding

There’s something about this preppy outdoor wedding that seems to capture the essence of summer. Maybe it’s the fact that Alice Bailey and John Scholle wed in the open air by the gazebo at Rockwood Manor; perhaps it’s the fact that they ended the night with s’mores. Whatever it is, we love every bit of it in the photos below by Kurstin Roe Photography.

Though the two had crossed paths before, Alice fully caught John’s attention at a party—by walking into a screen door! She used the clumsy exit as an excuse to ask him to meet again for happy-hour drinks, where they talked for hours. Alice found John “sweet and charming,” and he thought Alice “smart and pretty”—plus, she laughed at his jokes.

Four and a half years later, John’s plan to propose while strolling through ZooLights was thwarted by bad weather, so he popped the question at home by the Christmas tree. “I must have said Yes! half a dozen times,” remembers Alice.

At their colorful outdoor wedding (Alice especially loved the trailing ribbon on her peony-and-anemone bouquet), the bride surprised her Muppets-loving groom with a Gonzo-and-Camilla cake topper.

Favors came in the form of little boxes of Girl Scout cookies to honor the venue’s history as a Girl Scout national center, but not before guests gathered at the fire pit for a snack of flame-cooked s’mores.
