Madeline, from Kentucky, and Jonathan, from Great Falls, met as students at Georgetown University and connected romantically after meeting up again a few years after graduation. A s’mores-making first date on the rooftop of Madeline’s apartment in August marked the official beginning of their relationship, and four years later, Jon proposed on New Year’s Day while the pair were vacationing in Belgium.
Their April wedding featured a “classic DC” theme, with pink flowers (don’t miss all the Cherry Blossoms!) and pastel blue details. Madeline’s favorite part was a custom-designed toile that included several icons representing the couple’s relationship, such as the bridge where Jon proposed in Bruges and the BoltBus they used to take between New York City and DC when they dated long distance, she says. The toile was featured on the save the dates, bar panels, and cocktail hour napkins, and each table number featured one of the elements, including a description its significance. One of Jon’s favorite parts was having the Georgetown Pep Band play as he and Madeline exited the chapel—a fun surprise courtesy of Madeline’s dad. Following dinner, that newlyweds sliced into a cake layered with almond cake and cherry filling, and funfetti. See all the details from the Cherry Blossom-filled wedding below.
