Though Sarah had made a resolution to go to a meet up every month throughout 2013, it only took one such event for her to meet her man. She had roped her sister into attending her first meet up of the year–a New Year’s Eve bash at a hotel for people in their 20s and 30s–when she spotted Mike chatting with his friend. Assuming he was taken, Sarah and her sister walked over to ask the two guys if they could hang out with them until their girlfriends returned from the bathroom. When Mike assured them that there were no girlfriends, Sarah ended up hanging out with him for the rest of the event, ending the night with a kiss before they parted ways. They met up four days later at Capitol Hill’s Biergarten Haus, and from then on they were inseparable.

They’d been dating for a year and a half when they decided to return to the coastal town, Rye, New Hampshire, a place they’d visited together six months into their relationship. They were taking a walk on the beach when Mike stopped and started telling Sarah all the little things about her that might annoy someone, though he’d fallen in love with them all. “Whenever you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to begin as soon as possible,” he said, getting down on one knee. When they returned to their room, Mike, with the help of Sarah’s father, had filled it with four dozen red roses.

For their pretty-in-pink wedding at The Union Mills Homestead, Sarah and her mother worked on all of the floral arrangements together, sourcing their blooms online and at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. The bride and groom made sure to include both of their dogs in the day as well. “They [were] a huge part of our lives before we met and now together,” says Sarah.

Pink bridesmaid dresses, balloons, florals, parasols, and reception decor helped to tie together the color theme. For favors, the bride and her sister and mother baked chocolate chip cookies for guests to enjoy, attaching tags that read “Thanks for Making Our Day Sweet.” At the end of the night, the bride and groom departed under a sparkler send-off.
