Real Wedding: Tricia and Windle

A quirky celebration incorporating Bastille Day, a kilt, two cakes, and DIY centerpieces.

As a tradition every Christmas, Tricia Oh and Windle Jarvis, who met through mutual friends, dress up and go on a formal dinner date to celebrate the holiday. December 2011 was no exception, which is how the couple found themselves at Bourbon Steak at the Four Seasons in Georgetown. Says Tricia, a second-grade teacher, “After dinner Windle convinced me to walk down to the waterfront to our special place”—the spot where the two first confessed their love for one another. “It was freezing cold and I was in a cocktail dress, but all of the sudden he proposed to me on a bench by the water, surrounded by Christmas lights.” Luckily for Windle, who works for a Washington think tank, Tricia accepted, and a celebratory cocktail—indoors—followed at Old Ebbitt Grill.

In contrast to the winter chill of the proposal, the wedding, six months later, was a summery celebration that took place on Bastille Day at the historic Washington Club.
