Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

Pick up a discounted bridal gown and a bridesmaid dress your friends won’t hate you for, and sample some ornate cakes in this weekend’s bridal events.

By Lauren LaBorde Published Thursday, August 13: Monique Lhuillier Trunk Show
Popular wedding-dress designer Monique Lhuillier is the focus of this three-day trunk show, which runs through Saturday at Carine’s Bridal Atelier (1726 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-965-4696). The show will feature the designer’s spring 2010 collection, offering discounts and assistance from a Monique Lhuillier sales representative. Free with appointment; call the store to RSVP. 4 to 6 PM.

Friday, August 14: Jenny Yoo Bridesmaid Trunk Show
Thankfully, the bridal world has moved beyond tacky bridesmaid dresses made of ill-fitting taffeta. Hannelore’s of Olde Town (106 N. Lee St., Alexandria; 703-549-0387) is hosting a trunk show today through Sunday for Jenny Yoo’s bridesmaid collection, which features sleek and flattering dresses that likely won’t be used for ’80s costume parties down the line. Free. Friday and Saturday 10 to 6, Sunday noon to 5.

Sunday, August 16: Cakes by Design Open House
Specializing in cakes that look right out of a Food Network show, Cakes by Design (416 Mill St., Occoquan; 703-721-9626 ) is hosting an open house for potential clients. Free with RSVP; e-mail cakesbydesign@yahoo.com with your wedding date and reception location to save a spot; 10 to 2.
